NATURE PARK KARWENDEL

The Nature Park Karwendel covers almost the entire Karwendel massif and, with an area of 727 km², is the largest protected area in Tyrol and the largest nature park in Austria. Due to its topography, the Karwendel has an above-average proportion of natural habitats such as primeval forests and wild rivers and is home to a large number of animal and plant species that are important throughout Europe, such as the golden eagle, white-backed woodpecker and lady’s slipper.

“We are very proud that the Karwendelmarsch leads through the centre of this fantastic nature park and congratulate the Nature Park Karwendel on this fantastic award Naturpark des Jahres 2020,” say Martin Tschoner (Managing Director of Achensee Tourismus) and Elias Walser (Managing Director of the Seefeld region).

Sustainability and awareness-raising for nature in general and the Nature Park Karwendel in particular is seen by the organisers as an integral part of the Karwendelmarsch and therefore runs consistently through the conception of the programme with the aim of bringing participants closer to the beauty and significance of the Karwendel.

TRACES OF BIODIVERSITY

Since 2023, three euros per participant will be invested in the ambitious “Traces of Biodiversity” project, which aims to preserve and expand the unique nature and biodiversity of the Naturpark Karwendel. This pioneering initiative will be promoted along the entire route of the Karwendelmarsch, allowing sports enthusiasts to not only push themselves to their limits, but also make a valuable contribution to the protection of nature.

MAPLE TREE PLANTING

The Karwendelmarsch not only connects the Seefeld and Achensee regions geographically and thematically, it also provides a perfect bridge between sport, tourism and sustainability. The ÖBF (Austrian Forest Association) and the Naturpark Karwendel have come up with something special to get the message across to the public: For several years now, the first-place winners from the previous year traditionally meet in June at the picturesque “Kleiner Ahornboden” in the Naturpark Karwendel to plant their winning tree there and thus create a unique and valuable monument to themselves.

Information Point Finish Area (Pertisau am Achensee)
The Nature Park Karwendel presents itself in the finish area with an entire information tent. There is a craft and quiz station for children.
